Term 3 Here We Come!

Hope you all have had a fantastic holiday! Term 3 starts a little sad as two of our students have moved away. We wish them both the best of luck with their move and their learning future.
Having been on a mini-conference during the holidays, we will be learning and using a lot more different and fun programs that we will share with you all.
An exciting term ahead, with the Science Roadshow on the first day back, dog safety lessons as well as a display from the Police Dogs in the second week, then bring on the Rugby World Cup! We will be having an official opening ceremony on September 9, with more details to come.
Camp preparations are well under way. We will be having a variety of fundraising events to help cover the costs of the buses, as well as individual chocolate sales to help cover your child's camp costs will begin again.
We will keep everyone updated with the fantastic learning that we will be doing this term, and enjoy the precious little days left of the holidays!

Keep you posted :o)

What A Term!!!!

Wow!!! What a very full on term we have had. Speeches went extremely well and congratulations to Amy, Kavan and Majenta who were our Yr 5's who made it through to the syndicate finals, and to Marius, Katie and Jonathan who made it through for our Yr 6's. We also had some fun with our science experiments working towards our Science fair investigations. We had some very thorough investigations for teh Science Fair. We learnt that smell does effect the way we taste food, that caffeine makes your heart rate increase and that our reactions get a little better with age. Running makes your heart beat faster than skipping or walking, the colour of a drink effects whether we like it and can guess the flavour correctly, and the effects of energy drinks on our teeth! Congratulations to The Lab Rats who came first in the Waiuku School's Science Fair for Rotten Energy. I will never look at, or drink, a V again!. Also congratulations to The Brainy Bunch for their Reaction Robbers investigation who came second in the Science Fair, and also to Colourful Concoctions who came in third.
Book Week was also a success with a fantastic Book Character Parade on Friday afternoon. What a lot of effort that went into the costumes. Keep a look out for the slide show of the photos.
Maori Language week was also a success, and some wonderful artwork about our families was produced.
Looking forward to next term with our study on The Rugby World Cup. Go The All Blacks!!!!

Welcome to Term 2

Hello everybody!!! Welcome back to term 2. We have an exciting term planned ahead of us, with our main focus being on the Science Fair at the end of the term. We have got some great experiments planned as we learn all about how wonderful our human body is. We are also underway with our testing. We have completed all of our maths testing, and will begin with our reading on Monday. We are also writing speeches, with a fantastic Speech Snatcher show on Wednesday next week (please remember your $3 for this). We have 3 way conferences at the end of the term as well.
What a busy term, but a very fun one.

C'mon Guys, Get Firewise!!

Hello,

Today was filled with lots of exciting discussions around fires. We discussed different pictures showing safe and unsafe situations, brainstormed what to do if we see a fire, and explained how important smoke alarms are and where they should be placed inside our homes. We talked about how to feel a door before we open it, and escape routes. All children have been asked to discuss and practice escape routes with their families, and have been given stickers to put in their safe meeting place.
All of this is in aid of our Firewise show tomorrow. We will update you with how that went.

Keep you posted!!

Water Safety

Water safety is important to learn because too many people die in New Zealand. Learning water safety when you are young is so important as you are prepared for what is out there in the future.

Water is cold. You can get cold shock from falling into cold water. Cold shock makes you get a very cold feeling then you struggle and then you drown.

When you go on a boat you always need to wear a lifejacket so if you fall off the boat a lifejacket will always keep you up. To make sure your lifejacket fits, put two fingers down the strap and make sure they don't fit down.

When you are in a boat, canoe or a jet ski you need a radio or a cell phone to contact people if you capsize. It must be in a sealed bag so it does not get wet.

I think learning water safety is important because statistics prove that we lose a lot more people than any other country because of drowning.
